ALBANY – Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings declared today “Saint Rose Women’s Soccer Day” in the city and presented the team with a proclamation recognizing their historic 2009 season. The mayor furthermore announced a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Soccer Federation that will help offset the costs of construction of the field turf for the all-weather lacrosse/soccer facility at the new Plumeri Sports Complex, which will also feature baseball and softball diamonds, and a practice field.

ALBANY – Laurie Darling Gutheil, head women’s soccer coach at The College of Saint Rose, has been named the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Mondo Division II National Coach of the Year. The announcement was made as part of the annual NSCAA Awards Banquet, held in conjunction with the 2010 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia last night.

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose punched a ticket to its second consecutive Championship Finals appearance with a 1-0 victory this afternoon against California (PA) in a national quarterfinal game on the campus of Siena College. The Golden Knights (24-0-0), ranked #2 in the final NSCAA/Adidas Division II Poll, did so in convincing fashion by generating a 12-2 shot advantage and a 9-1 differential in corner kicks.

However, the Golden Knights (23-0-0) must first get by California, PA (19-5-1) in tomorrow’s national quarterfinal encounter.
