BOSTON – The College of Saint Rose men’s and women’s cross country teams closed out their 2008 campaigns on a high note at the NCAA East Regional Championships that were hosted by UMass Lowell at Franklin Park in Boston today. The two squads both had their best finishes ever with a pair of fifth place showings. There were 24 complete teams in the men’s race and 23 in the women’s meet.

Joanne Smith and junior
Melissa Bredice spearheaded the Saint Rose women’s effort, which had five runners, including two freshmen, among the top-41 in a field that included 166 participants.
Smith covered the 6k layout in 24:06.1, while Bredice ran a 24:24.7 to place 22nd and 29th respectively. Freshmen
Ashley Jackman and
Lindsey Bonk were not far behind in 35th and 36th place with respective times of 24:35.6 and 24:36.2. Sophomore
Meaghan Lucie was close as well with a 41st place time of 24:43.2.

Katie Rossettini rounded out the Saint Rose contingent with 50th and 97th place finishes. DeLorenzo finished with a time of 24:53.5, while Rossettini crossed the line in 26:27.8.
In the men’s race, the Golden Knights had three runners cross the finish line in the top-35 of a field with 167 entries. Freshman
Brandon Madigan led the Saint Rose pack with a 28th place time of 33:21.6 over the 10k trek. His time is the fastest ever by a Saint Rose runner at Franklin Park. Meanwhile, senior

Macky Lloyd were 33rd and 35th respectively. Cullen crossed the line in 33:33.3 and Lloyd finished in 33:47.8.

Justin Thompson and junior
Zach Phelps completed the top-five for the Golden Knights. Thompson ran a 34:07.0 to finish 46th and Phelps ran a 34:32.0 to place 54th. Sophomore
Tyler Gantz and freshman
Anthony Roberto rounded out the Saint Rose participants. Gantz came across in 89th with a time of 35:39.2, while Roberto was 130th with a 38:26.2 clocking.
