BETHLEHEM, PA – The College of Saint Rose cross country teams both had exceptional all-around performances at the prestigious 36th annual Brooks Paul Short Run on the campus of Lehigh University this afternoon. The event is one of the nation’s most respected cross country competitions. It featured 14 different races with some 5,000 competitors from colleges and high schools throughout the United States.
The Saint Rose women’s squad placed seventh among 32 complete teams in the Collegiate “White” Race, while the men’s team finished 33rd among 38 institutions in the Collegiate “Brown” Race that had nearly one third of the field comprised of Division I schools.
Sophomore
Macky Lloyd was the top Saint Rose male finisher for the fourth time in as many meets this season. Lloyd covered the 8k layout in 26:27 to place 90th among 322 entries. He was just ahead of classmate
Justin Thompson who ran a 26:32 to place 100th.
Sophomore
Brandon Madigan was the third Saint Rose runner across followed by junior
Tyler Gantz and freshmen
Mike Corrado and
Brandon Krupunich. Madigan hit the line in 26:49 to place 137th, while Gantz was 159th with a 26:57 clocking. Corrado and Krupunich were 230th and 247th with respective times of 27:50 and 28:54. Finally, junior
Kevin Flynn was 253rd with a 29:28 performance.
As for the women, junior
Meaghan Lucie led the Golden Knights contingent by finishing 29th in a field that consisted of 248 entries. Lucie completed the 6k trek in 23:56. Freshman
Dana Welch made an impressive showing in her collegiate debut by running a 24:08 to place 38th, just ahead of senior
Melissa Bredice who was 42nd behind a time of 24:18.
Bredice was followed by senior
Katie Rossettini, and freshmen
Liz Dalia and
Katie DiBello who were 59th, 64th and 77th respectively with times that were within 17 seconds of each other. Rossettini clocked a 24:32 while Dalia and DiBello crossed the line in 24:36 and 24:49. Another freshman in
Emma Cohen rounded out the Saint Rose delegation with a 93rd place time of 25:13.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose will travel west on the New York Thruway towards Syracuse next Saturday for a dual meet at Le Moyne that is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am. The Golden Knights will then have two weeks to prepare for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships that are set for Saturday, October 24 at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT.
