COLCHESTER, VT – The College of Saint Rose women’s cross country team finished fifth among 16 complete schools and the men’s squad wound up seventh among 13 scoring teams at the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Championships that were run today on the Saint Michael’s College campus.

Four of the top-five performers for the Saint Rose women were freshmen including Emma Cohen who earned third-team All-League accolades by finishing 20th among 158 entries. Cohen completed the 5k layout in a personal best 19:29.9. Meanwhile, sophomore Macky Lloyd paced the men’s contingent for the sixth time in as many races this season with an 8k time of 26:26.2. Lloyd was 25th among 136 participants.

Stonehill swept the two team titles. The Skyhawks had four of the top-10 finishers in the women’s meet to edge UMass Lowell by 16 points. Southern Connecticut State senior Laura Brustolon broke the tape 20 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor with a winning time of 18:03.8. In the men’s competition, Stonehill had five of the top-10 overall performances to better UMass Lowell by nine points. American International freshman Glarius Rop cruised to victory behind a meet record 24:22.2 clocking, 42 seconds swifter than Stonehill junior Kevin Gill.

For the Golden Knights, freshman Dana Welch was 24th overall with a 19:40.5 clocking in only her second collegiate meet. She was followed by junior Meaghan Lucie, freshmen Liz Dalia and Grace Giampaglia, and seniors Melissa Bredice and Katie Rossettini.

Lucie was 36th behind a 19:58.0 clocking. Dalia, Giampaglia and Bredice came across together in 46th, 49th and 50th with respective times of 20:10.6, 20:15.7 and 20:19.2. Rossettini was also with them with a 54th place time of 20:21.1.

Sophomores Brandon Madigan, Justin Thompson, and Dan Gargaro along with junior Tyler Gantz followed Lloyd in the men’s race. Madigan was 38th overall with a 27:01.1 clocking, Thompson ran a 27:10.4 to take 42nd, while Gargaro and Gantz were 52nd and 58th with respective times of 27:28.0 and 27:38.7.

Looking ahead, both teams have the next two weeks to prepare for the NCAA East Regional Championships that are set for Sunday, November 8 at Franklin Park in Boston.
