ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with visiting Le Moyne today at The Albany Academies. The men chalked up a 126-104 victory, while the women fell 131-108 to the visiting Dolphins.
Sophomore
Bryan Shaver won two individual events and swam the lead leg on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team to pace the men’s squad. Meanwhile, freshman
Caitlin Brauer broke a pair of school records on the way to three victories for the women’s contingent.
Shaver won both the 100 and 500 freestyles with respective times of 5:01.30 and 10:18.32; while Brauer bettered school marks in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Brauer swam the 100 breast in 1:08.02 and hit the wall in 2:12.80 for the 200 IM. She was furthermore a mere 3/10ths off the school record pace with a first place clocking of 55.22 for the 100 free.
Sophomores
Ryan Brauer and
Vadim Yafayev, and freshman diver
Ryan Butler also had winning efforts for the men’s squad. Brauer won the men’s 100 breast and 200 free in 1:01.72 and 1:48.67 respectively, while Yafayev touched first in the 200 IM with a 2:01.10 clocking. Meanwhile, Butler accumulated 293.65 points throughout the compulsory and optional diving events.
Yafayev furthermore anchored the 200 free relay team that also featured freshman
Joseph Krok and junior
Jonathan Kruger along with Shaver.
As for the women’s contingent, the Golden Knights also received winning performances out of juniors
Christine Lockwood and
Amy Lamparelli, and sophomore
Caitlin Peterson. Peterson and Lockwood won the 500 and 1000 freestyles with respective times of 5:24.92 and 11:35.59, while Lamparelli hit the wall first in the 100 fly with a 1:02.71 clocking.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose will take part in the Bentley Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6 in Waltham, MA. Meanwhile, Le Moyne is scheduled to participate in the Don Richards Invite at RIT that weekend.
