SAINT ROSE WOMEN SEVENTH, MEN NINTH AT NCAA EAST REGIONAL
Sophomore Brandon Madigan took 54th among 180 individual entries

BOSTON, MA – The College of Saint Rose women’s cross country team finished seventh among 25 complete schools and the men’s squad wound up ninth among 26 scoring teams at the 2009 NCAA East Regional that was run today at Franklin Park in Boston.
Four of the top-five performers for the Saint Rose women were freshmen including Emma Cohen who finished 33rd among 178 entries. Cohen completed the 6k layout in 24:40.9. Meanwhile, sophomore Dan Gargaro paced the men’s contingent with a 10k time of 33:41.4. Gargaro was 35th among 180 entries.
Stonehill captured the women’s title, while UMass Lowell walked away with the men’s championship. The Skyhawks had three of the top-10 finishers in the women’s meet to edge UMass Lowell by 25 points. Sophomore Erin Carmone broke the tape 11 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor with a winning time of 22:16.5.
In the men’s competition, UMass Lowell had all five runners finish among the top-13 overall to better Stonehill by 24 points. American International freshman Glarius Rop cruised to victory behind a 30:15.9 clocking, 46 seconds swifter than teammate Victor Kemboi.
For the Golden Knights, freshman Dana Welch was 37th overall with a 24:47.9 clocking in only her third collegiate meet. She was followed by freshman Grace Giampaglia, junior Katie Rossettini and freshman Liz Dalia.
Giampaglia was 46th behind a 25:12.5 clocking. Rossettini and Dalia came across in 51st and 58th with respective times of 25:21.4 and 25:28.3. Junior Meaghan Lucie was also with them with a 59th place time of 25:51.4.
Sophomore Brandon Madigan, junior Tyler Gantz, freshman Mike Corrado, sophomore Justin Thompson along with sophomore Macky Lloyd followed Gargaro in the men’s race. Madigan was 54th overall with a 34:16.1 clocking, Gantz ran a 34:27.5 to take 55th, while Corrado, Thompson and Lloyd were 60th, 69th and 91st with respective times of 34:37.5, 34:55.9 and 35:41.3.
