EGBERT NAMED NE-10 WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Kailey Egbert was chosen from a list of 10 finalists as the Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year
ALBANY – Kailey Egbert, who graduated last month after an exceptional career for The College of Saint Rose women’s soccer team, has tacked on yet another milestone to her impressive resume. Egbert was honored with the Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year Award at the league’s annual awards banquet last night in Mystic, Conn. Egbert was chosen from a list of 10 finalists as selected by the league’s Senior Woman Administrators Council.

Looking ahead, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics (CWA) will receive nominations from each conference in Division I, II and III. All conference nominees from the three divisions are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee in which then the committee will select the top 10 winners from each division. From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. Finally, the members of the CWA will vote from the top nine to determine the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year which will be announced in Indianapolis, October 18.

The Woman of the Year Award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Egbert certainly fits the bill on all accounts. She graduated with a 3.63 GPA (4.00 scale) as a biology major, was honored as a 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Adidas first-team Scholar All-American, was tabbed a College Division ESPN The Magazine District 1 Academic All-America® honoree, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), and was also named a third team All-American by the NSCAA. She was further recognized as both a Daktronics/CoSIDA and NSCAA/Adidas All-Region pick. The three-time team captain and two-time All-Conference pick, was also chosen among a select group of student-athletes at all NCAA levels for an educational grant through the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Program.

The recipient of the College’s Outstanding Senior Award for Biology, Egbert has additionally dedicated herself to numerous extracurricular activities including; the Saint Rose Natural Science Association, the Saint Jude’s Telethon, the Saint Rose Joseph Henry Science Fair, Science Olympiad, the Saint Rose Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Abby Wambach/MVP Health Soccer Clinic.

This past season, Egbert had 18 points on seven goals and four assists for the Golden Knights who strung together an historic campaign. Saint Rose posted a 20-4-2 mark, set a school record with its 20 victories and became only the fourth team since 1985 to win back-to-back NE-10 Championships. The Golden Knights furthermore earned their sixth NCAA Tournament berth within a seven year stretch, wound up as the nation’s fourth ranked team in the final NSCAA/Adidas poll and won the NCAA Tournament East Regional Championship that propelled them to a national semifinal appearance.

Egbert concluded her distinguished career in a Golden Knights uniform among the College’s top-15 in all three major scoring categories with 67 points, 25 goals and 17 assists.
