LOUDONVILLE, NY – The College of Saint Rose men’s team sent across three of the top-five and five of the top-10 finishers en route to a first place showing among seven complete institutions at the fifth annual Golden Knights Joust that was hosted by the College at The Crossings of Colonie today. In the women’s race, Saint Rose also had five of the top-10 performers to place first among six complete entries to sweep the team titles.

Northeast-10 Conference and upstate rival Le Moyne College finished second in both competitions. The women wound up 17 points behind the Golden Knights after placing three runners in the top-15, while the men’s squad had all five scoring runners among the top-25 to tie for second place with SUNY Cobleskill with 66 points apiece.

Le Moyne senior Jake McAndrew bettered his course record by three seconds and in the process took the men’s individual title for the second year in a row after completing the 5 mile trek in 26:25. Meanwhile, freshman Emma D’Ambro covered the three mile layout in a time of 19:18 to outdistance teammate Gina Micaroni by 17 seconds to take the women’s individual crown.

Senior Melissa Bredice and freshman Katie DiBello spearheaded the Saint Rose women’s effort with third and sixth place performances respectively. Bredice ran a 19:50, while DiBello broke the tape in 20:43.

The club’s next five representatives all came in just a 1:32 apart. Sophomore Alison Vogelien was eighth among 50 competitors with a time of 20:54, while senior co-captain Katie Rossettini was a mere hundredth of a second behind to take ninth. Junior Meaghan Lucie and freshman Emma Cohen were 10th and 16th respectively. Lucie crossed the line 21:20, while Cohen came across in 22:06 in her collegiate debut. Freshman Grace Giampaglia rounded out the top-seven for the Golden Knights in 18th behind a 22:26 clocking.

In the men’s race, sophomores Macky Lloyd and Justin Thompson along with junior co-captain Tyler Gantz came in second, third and fifth to put Saint Rose in the catbird seat. Lloyd ran a 27:12, Thompson was 43 seconds behind in 27:55 and Gantz followed in 28:27.

Additionally, sophomore Brandon Madigan ran a 28:29 to finish sixth overall among 69 entries. The freshmen trio of Mike Corrado, Brandon Krupunich and Nathan Bub were ninth, 17th and 22nd. Corrado had a 28:39 clocking, Krupunich crossed the line in 29:58 and Bub covered the layout in 30:34.

Saint Rose will spend this week preparing for the Shacklette Invitational, which is scheduled for next Saturday, September 12 at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 10:00 am.
