FLUSHING, NY – The College of Saint Rose men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened the second half of their 2009-10 campaign in superlative fashion by sweeping host Queens College in a dual meet this afternoon. The women’s squad chalked up a 149-68 victory, while the men’s group came away with a 126-74 win. The two squads registered a collective 19, first place finishes on the day.
Sophomore
Caitlin Peterson and freshman
Caitlin Brauer won two events apiece to lead the women’s contingent, while sophomore
Vadim Yafayev touched first in a pair of events to spearhead the men’s effort.
Peterson touched first in both the 50 and 500-yard freestyles in respective times of 26.74 and 5:21.57, while Yafayev finished the 200 butterfly in 2:09.08 and swam the 200 backstroke in 2:06.35.
Juniors
Amy Lamparelli,
Alicia Robinson, and
Christine Lockwood also won individual events as did freshman
Naomi Woodcock. Lamparelli swam the 200 butterfly in 2:17.55, Robinson finished the 100 free in 58.43, and Lockwood touched in a time of 2:08.16 for the 200 free. Meanwhile, Woodcock completed the 200 individual medley in 2:24.60.
Furthermore, the 200 medley relay team of sophomores
Stephanie Schuyler and
Hilary Stanmyer, along with Robinson and Woodcock, hit the wall in 4:22.21. Junior
Kerrianne Sanicola and freshman
Lauren McGlone each won a round of diving to cap the women’s team scoring.
In the men’s competition, sophomore
Bryan Shaver won the 200 IM in 2:09.74 and junior
Matt Micha swam a winning time of 51.90 in the 100 free. Shaver also swam the opening leg for the victorious 400 medley relay quartet that hit the wall in 3:51.22. He was followed by freshmen
Joseph Krok and
Michael Vogelsang, and junior
Jonathan Kruger. Finally, freshman
Ryan Butler accumulated 183.25 points en route to a pair of diving wins.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Saturday for a dual meet versus Saint Michael’s College. The first race is set for 1:00 pm at The Albany Academies.
