SAINT ROSE SWEEPS ADELPHI IN DUAL MEET ACTION

GARDEN CITY, NY – The College of Saint Rose men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet at Adelphi University today. The women’s team won 10 races to take home a 73-22 victory, while the men’s contingent came away with a 48-47 triumph. Both teams now own 5-2 dual meet records on the year.

Sophomore Caitlin Peterson, freshman Caitlin Brauer, and junior Christine Lockwood spearheaded the women’s effort.

Peterson touched first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.35 and furthermore swam the lead leg for two winning relay teams. Lockwood touched first in the 500 and 1000 freestyles. She finished the 500 in 5:33.25 and the 1,000 in 11:29.18. Brauer won both the 200 IM and 100 free in respective times of 2:13.51 and 56.66.

Brauer also anchored the 200 free relay quartet that finished in 1:47.87. She was preceded by Peterson, and sophomores Stephanie Schuyler and Hilary Stanmyer. The latter also swam the 100 backstroke in a winning time of 1:08.55.

Peterson led the way for the first place 200 medley relay team that also featured freshman Naomi Woodcock, and juniors Amy Lamparelli and Alicia Robinson. The foursome swam a collective time of 1:57.00. Lamparelli also came with a win in the 100 butterfly by going 1:03.38, while Woodcock finished the 100 breaststroke in a first place time of 1:12.14.

In the men’s competition, sophomores Vadim Yafayev and Bryan Shaver, and freshman Joseph Krok had individual winning performances and were all part of a first place relay squad.

Krok won the 50 free in 23.18, Yafayev took the 200 IM in 2:01.62 and Shaver hit the wall first with a 10:30.21 clocking in the 1,000 free. Shaver and Yafayev were also part of the 200 free relay team that swam a winning time of 1:32.02. Senior Joseph DiMilia and freshman Michael Vogelsang swam the middle two legs for Saint Rose.

The final win for the Golden Knights came from junior Matt Micha and junior Jonathan Kruger who teamed with Krok and Vogelsang to take the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:43.55.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose will close out the dual meet portion of its 2009-10 campaign tomorrow when the Golden Knights host Skidmore College. The meet is scheduled for 1:00 pm at The Albany Academies.
