ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose held visiting UMass Lowell to 36.0 percent (9-for-25) shooting and forced the River Hawks into 16 turnovers throughout the second half on the way to a 70-59 Northeast-10 Conference victory this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. In the process, the Golden Knights (9-9/8-5 NE-10) won their fourth straight and snapped UMass Lowell’s (11-6/7-6 NE-10) four game unbeaten streak.

Junior guard Lynsey Timbrouck tossed in a career-high 19 points and handed out three assists to lead Saint Rose. Timbrouck finished 5-for-7 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the foul line, and was subsequently named the Capital Region Chapter of the Saint Rose Alumni Association Player of the Game.

Sophomore guard Ola Shajuyigbe finished with 14 points in 22 minutes off the bench, while sophomore center Ali Johnson had 10 points and eight rebounds to go with three blocks. Senior guard Elizabeth Buckley wound up with nine points, while junior forward Amy Voelkel and sophomore guard Ashley Rath added eight apiece.

Saint Rose assumed control with an 18-4 outburst at the 12:48 mark of the second half that transformed a seven point, 46-39, deficit into a 57-50 lead with 3:47 remaining. The Golden Knights then went 9-for-11 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the victory.

Voelkel drained a 3-pointer to ignite the run, Timbrouck converted a layup at the 10:27 mark that tied it at 46-46 and Johnson hit a free throw to put Saint Rose ahead for good, 47-46, with 9:53 remaining. Five minutes later, Shajuyigbe scored off her own steal and Johnson finished in the paint to make it a seven point ballgame.

UMass Lowell senior guard Amanda McGrew halted the run with a 3-pointer. However, Shajuyigbe scored inside and the Golden Knights then took advantage of their opportunities from the stripe to improve to 6-3 at home this year.

Senior forward Jen Valente led the River Hawks with 13 points, while freshman center Sarah Bennett and freshman guard Bianca Simmons scored 10 each.

Looking ahead, both teams return to league action with 5:30 pm dates Tuesday. The Golden Knights will head to Waltham, MA to meet Bentley, while UMass Lowell will host Pace University.
