ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose won a combined 17 events to sweep Skidmore College today in what marked the Golden Knights final dual meet of the 2009-10 season. The men’s team had nine, first place efforts to chalk up a 128-89 victory, while the women’s team touched first on eight occasions en route to a 143-95 triumph.
Prior to the meet, seniors
Joseph DiMilia and
Rosalie Palmer were honored for their contributions to the program throughout the previous four years. Both DiMilia and Palmer then helped lead the Saint Rose 200-yard medley relay teams to winning swims. The men’s squad finished in 1:44.40; while the women’s quartet finished in 1:58.18.
Throughout the afternoon, the men’s team had seven different entries account for its eight individual wins. Sophomore
Vadim Yafayev was the lone multiple winner. Yafayev swam a winning time of 2:03.75 in the 200 butterfly and finished the 200 backstroke in 2:02.83.
Freshman
Michael Vogelsang and junior
Jonathan Kruger won the 50 and 200 freestyles respectively and were also part of the victorious 200 medley relay team, along with DiMilia and freshman
Sean Crowley. Vogelsang swam the 50 in 23.12, while Kruger hit the wall with a winning time of 1:50.44 for the 200.
Freshmen
Joseph Krok and
Bryan Shaver, along with sophomore
Sean Hodgkiss and junior
Matt Micha, were responsible the for the remaining four individual Saint Rose victories.
Krok won the 400 individual medley in 4:28.00; while Micha, Shaver, and Hodgkiss hit the wall first in the 100, 500 and 1,000 freestyles respectively. Micha finished in 51.68, Shaver swam a 4:58.44 and Hodgkiss had a winning time of 11:18.66.
As for the women, freshman
Caitlin Brauer and sophomore
Caitlin Peterson won two events each and were also part of the winning 200 free relay squad, along with juniors
Amy Lamparelli and
Alicia Robinson. The quartet finished in 1:44.97.
Brauer won the 200 breaststroke and 400 IM in respective times of 2:27.71 and 4:40.72, while Peterson swam winning times of 2:14.07 for the 200 back and 10:53.07 for the 1,000 free.
Lamparelli took first place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.02, while Robinson won the 100 free in 57.49 and helped the Golden Knights capture the opening event, the 200 medley relay. She was joined on that squad by freshman
Erin Ludeke and junior
Amanda Cunningham, who along with Palmer finished in 1:58.18.
Looking ahead, Saint Rose will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships that are set for February 5-7 at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven. Meanwhile, Skidmore will host Rensselaer in a dual meet next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
