PISCATAWAY, NJ – The College of Saint Rose women’s swimming and diving team stands fifth among 21 competing institutions and the men’s squad is 12th among 18 teams following Saturday’s second round of competition at the 2010 Metropolitan Conference Championships. The three-day event is being held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University.
The Saint Rose women have accumulated 653 points by continuing their relentless attack on the school record book. The Golden Knights established four more standards this evening to accompany the same number they set last night.
Freshman
Caitlin Brauer broke her own school record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:31.57 and thus for the second consecutive day reached an automatic qualifying standard for next month’s NCAA Championships. Meanwhile, junior
Amy Lamparelli lowered her NCAA provisional qualifying cut in that event with a second place showing of 4:35.04.
Furthermore, sophomore
Stephanie Schuyler bettered her own school mark in the 100 backstroke by swimming a third place time of 59.68 in tonight’s final, which followed her 59.54 clocking in a preliminary heat this afternoon. Senior
Rosalie Palmer and freshman
Erin Ludeke were fifth and eighth in that event with respective times of 1:00.74 and 1:01.55.
Schuyler also swam the opening leg for the record setting 200 medley relay squad that went a fourth place time of 1:49.94. She was followed by freshman
Naomi Woodcock; Lamparelli and junior
Alicia Robinson.
The fourth school standard came via the 800 free relay quartet that recorded a third place time of 7:56.87. Brauer set the pace for sophomore
Caitlin Peterson, Ludeke and finally Lamparelli.
As for the men’s squad, sophomore
Vadim Yafayev swam a sixth place time of 52.55 in the 100 butterfly and was furthermore part of the seventh place 800 free relay quartet that also included sophomore
Bryan Shaver, freshman
Joseph Krok, and junior
Jonathan Kruger.
The meet is scheduled to conclude tomorrow with preliminary heats getting underway at 9:30 am. The finals session is set for 6:00 pm.
