PISCATAWAY, NJ – The College of Saint Rose women’s swimming and diving team finished fourth among 21 competing institutions and the men’s squad wound up 11th among 18 teams at the 2010 Metropolitan Conference Championships that concluded tonight. The three-day event was held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center on the campus of Rutgers University.
The Saint Rose women accumulated 927 points to place a mere 8.5 points behind third place finisher Southern Connecticut State. The Golden Knights established four more standards this evening to accompany the same number they set Friday and Saturday nights. Freshman
Caitlin Brauer set three of those marks on the way to being named the competition’s Female Rookie of the Meet.
Brauer established five individual school records throughout the weekend and was furthermore part of three school record setting relay teams. She twice bettered her own school standard in the 200-yard breaststroke today. Brauer went a 2:25.33 in a preliminary heat this morning, and then swam a second place time of 2:22.96 in tonight’s final session. Also, her 100 split of 1:07.86 lowered her school standard in that event as well.
Additionally, sophomore
Caitlin Peterson broke her own mark in the 100 freestyle with an eighth place time of 54.42. Peterson and Brauer were furthermore part of the fourth place 400 free relay squad, along with junior
Alicia Robinson and freshman
Naomi Woodcock, that hit the wall in 3:39.72.
Other outstanding efforts came from freshman
Erin Ludeke and sophomore
Stephanie Schuyler who were fifth and seventh in 200 backstroke with respective times of 2:11.09 and 2:12.73. Junior
Amy Lamparelli finished sixth in the 200 butterfly with a 2:11.63 clocking, while her classmate
Christine Lockwood was ninth in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 18:40.41.
On the men’s side of the meet, sophomore
Vadim Yafayev swam a fifth place time of 2:10.51 in the 200 breaststroke and sophomore
Bryan Shaver finished eighth in the 200 backstroke with a 1:59.36 clocking.
