ALBANY – First year guard
Andre Pope of The College of Saint Rose has been honored by the Northeast-10 Conference as its men’s basketball Freshman of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 7. This marks the second consecutive time that Pope has been so honored.
Pope averaged 17.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists during a 2-0 week for the Golden Knights (12-10/9-8 NE-10). He shot 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the floor and hit at a 61.5 percent (8-for-13) clip from beyond the arc. Pope fired in a season high 27 points in an 84-57 win over Assumption on Wednesday. In addition to burying seven treys; Pope recorded seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. He then wound up with seven points, four boards and three assists throughout Saturday’s 79-63 victory at American International.
Pope is one of four Saint Rose players averaging double-figures in scoring on the year. He is tossing in 12.6 points on a regular basis and leads the squad with 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals per-game. He is furthermore shooting 42.6 percent (46-for-108) from 3-point range, the league’s fourth best mark, and has been in double-figures scoring 17 times.
The Golden Knights are home again Tuesday when they host Adelphi (16-8/9-8 NE-10) in a key conference contest. The two squads are tied for seventh place, although the Panthers upended visiting Saint Rose 68-49 back on November 24. The second half of the NE-10 doubleheader is set for a 7:30 pm start, with the respective women’s teams scheduled to get underway at 5:30 pm.
