KISSIMMEE, FL – The College of Saint Rose softball team capped off its six-day, 10-game trip to Florida with a 7-5 victory over Lake Erie College this afternoon. Earlier this morning, the Golden Knights (2-8) suffered a 4-2 loss versus Gannon University.

Saint Rose pounded out a season-high 12 hits against Lake Erie as seven players in the lineup had at least a hit in the contest. Senior Meg Rios and sophomore second baseman Kayla Kuilema each went 3-for-4 with two runs. Kuilema also belted her first career home run with a two-run blast in the third inning. Meanwhile, junior catcher Nikki Woodard finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double.

With the score tied 3-3 heading into the top of the seventh, Rios, Kuilema and senior shortstop Ashley Anderson roped three consecutive base hits to set the stage for Woodard. Woodard then delivered a bases clearing double that put the Golden Knights in front for good, 7-3.

The Storm (2-7) chipped away at their deficit in the bottom of the inning as junior right fielder Danielle Finkler laced a two-run single. However, Saint Rose junior right-hander Nicole Traylor was up to the challenge by inducing a pop-out to end the game. Traylor scattered five hits in three innings of relief and fanned two batters while walking none.

In game one this morning, Gannon (5-4) senior second baseman Casee Piquet broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run shot in the fifth, thus providing the final outcome. The Golden Knights also used the long ball earlier in the contest as sophomore third baseman Ashley Petrone belted a two-run home run of her own that initially put them up 2-0.

Saint Rose took advantage of two Gannon errors in the bottom of the second to even things 2-2. Woodard walked, sophomore Jessica Butterbrodt reached on an error and both came around to score when junior outfielder Katie Ives lined a ball to left that was misplayed.

Sophomore right-hander Courtney Galuski kept Saint Rose within striking distance by allowing four hits in five innings of work despite being credited with the loss.

The Golden Knights are now idle until commencing their 2010 Northeast-10 Conference slate on March 27 when they welcome Assumption College to Albany for a league doubleheader.
