ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose baseball team had three of its student-athletes honored by the Northeast-10 Conference today in recognition of their outstanding performances throughout the past season.
Junior left-hander
David Batchelder was named a second-team All-Conference pick while senior outfielder
Derek Marshall garnered third-team All-League accolades. Furthermore, freshman outfielder
Scott Hladik was named to the NE-10 All-Rookie team. Voting was conducted by the conference’s head coaches.
Batchelder went 5-2 with a 1.78 ERA and 58 strikeouts throughout 60.2 innings of work over eight starts. He also held opposing hitters to a .180 batting average. Along the way, Batchelder set school single-season records (NCAA era)* by surrendering only 38 hits and 12 earned runs. Furthermore, his batting average against and ERA represent the third and fourth best marks in school annals.
Marshall is making his second consecutive appearance on the NE-10 All-Conference team after batting .280 (44-for-157) with 20 extra-base hits. He currently stands tied for ninth among the league leaders with 33 RBI. A prominent piece in the middle of the Golden Knights lineup in each of the past four seasons, Marshall tied a school record with 43 career doubles and finished 10th all-time with 167 hits while dressing in 175 games.
As for Hladik, the promising rookie made 23 starts as a corner outfielder and wound up hitting .275 (25-for-91) this spring. He had six multi-hit games and raised his batting average by 64 points during the last two weeks of the season.
