ALBANY – Five student-athletes have signed national letters of intent indicating their desire to play for head coach Casey O’Connor beginning this year. The class represents three states and covers five positions. A trio of players hail from New York, while one comes from Massachusetts and another from Vermont.

The group is comprised of outfielder Brian Maynard (Lynn, MA/Lynn English), shortstop/pitcher Alex Ferenti (Deerfield, NY/Whitesboro), outfielder/catcher Casey Cunningham (Williston Park, NY/Chaminade), right-hander Matt Goulet (Milton, VT/Milton), and pitcher/first baseman Ryan Donovan (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor).

Maynard was a Northeast Conference All-Star as a junior at Lynn English and also plays for the USA Mavericks, one of the top-ranked AAU travel teams in New England. Ferenti, a transfer out of Herkimer County CC, was a two-year starting pitcher and shortstop for the Generals who posted a 61-22 overall record throughout his tenure. Ferenti garnered second-team All-Region accolades as a freshman after he batted .358 with 34 RBI. On the mound, he registered a 9-0 career record with a 1.76 ERA and 55 strikeouts throughout 46.0 innings of work.

Another versatile player, Cunningham saw action in center field and catcher at Chaminade. He was an All-Catholic League pick as a junior and was recently ranked by Blue Chip Prospects as one of Long Island’s top-20 recruits for 2010. A first-team All-State pick as a sophomore in 2008, Goulet was named the MVP of the 2009 Vermont State Tournament after picking up the victory in the state title game. He wound up 4-1 with 40 strikeouts during 42.1 innings on the bump that season.

Finally, Donovan was a member of the 2007 class “AA” state championship team at Proctor for whom he went on to earn first-team CNYCL accolades as a sophomore. As a junior, he was named to the Mohawk Valley All-Star team after batting .394 with 27 RBI. Donovan is furthermore a two-time Gold Team member for Utica Post 229 legion team.
