ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose will induct four former outstanding student-athletes, one of whom happens to be one of the nation’s most successful NCAA Division II basketball coaches, and the 1990 baseball team into its Athletics Hall of Fame during an on-campus ceremony at the Thelma P. Lally School of Education on Saturday, October 23, at 6:00 pm. The induction ceremony will be held as part of the College’s Family Homecoming Weekend celebration.

The 2010 class includes the following individuals; Brian Beaury (men’s basketball coach, 1986-87 – present/player 1978-82), Kerri Stone (women’s soccer, 2000-03), Colleen (Sheridan) Tauriello, (women’s basketball, 1996-00), and Eliza Whipple (women’s soccer, 2000-03).

The 1990 baseball squad captured the NAIA District 31 title, the Area 8 championship and advanced to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, ID in dramatic fashion. Saint Rose staved off elimination three times by defeating Wilmington and Point Park on the same day and then upending Point Park the following day in the Area 8 Tournament championship game. In the process, the Golden Knights snapped the Pioneers’ 41-game win streak. They then proceeded to go 2-2 in the World Series with victories against Lewis & Clark (OR) and Wisconsin-Stout, before falling to host Lewis-Clark State, which went on to win its fourth consecutive national title. Saint Rose wound up 38-9 on the year and at one point put together a still-standing school record 22-game win streak.

Brian Beaury has secured his reputation as one of the nation’s finest college basketball mentors on any level. He owns a 517-218 (.703) career record, is among the top-10 all-time NCAA Division II coaches in terms of victories, and two years ago became only the 34th NCAA II coach to post 500 career wins. Beaury’s teams have become synonymous with success. The Golden Knights have qualified for postseason play in each of his 24 years at the helm, have made three “Elite Eight” appearances, a national semifinal appearance, and have garnered 11 NCAA Tournament berths within the past 19 seasons. Beaury, who was inducted into the New York State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame last spring, has guided Saint Rose to at least 19 victories throughout 20 of his 24 years. A two-time Co-Chair of the Saint Rose Capital Campaign, he was the 1996 Saint Rose Distinguished Alumni Award winner and is also a founder of the N.Y. State Basketball Coaches HOF. As a player, Beaury was a two-time All-Conference pick and still ranks among the school’s top-10 leaders in both assists (443) and steals (176).

Kerri Stone was the first women’s soccer All-American at Saint Rose. The defensive midfielder was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American and a first-team All New England Region pick as a senior in 2003, and was furthermore twice chosen a Northeast-10 Conference first-team All-League selection. Stone led the Golden Knights to their first two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2002 and 2003, and to a pair of ECAC Tournament appearances the two previous years. She started 79 of the team’s 80 contests throughout her career, the sixth most in school annals. The three-time team captain also closed out her career as the 12th all-time scorer in school history (51) despite spending most of her playing time as a defender, and also garnered several academic honors. Stone won the prestigious ECAC Robbins Scholar-Athlete Award and was also recognized as an NSCAA Scholar All-American as a senior.

Colleen (Sheridan) Tauriello quarterbacked four New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship teams that posted a 125-5 (.962) four-year overall record, including the 1999-00 “Elite Eight” squad that set an NCAA II single-season standard with 34 consecutive victories. Tauriello was an honorable mention All-American as a senior and a first-team ECAC All-East pick as a senior, and twice earned All-Conference accolades from the NYCAC. The fourth all-time leading scorer in school history (1,505), she stands second all-time in assists (508) after graduating as the all-time leader and is also the all-time leader in 3-pointers made (266) and 3-point field goal percentage (.440). Tauriello, who established yet another school record by starting all of the team’s 130 games throughout her career, furthermore stands third all-time in free throw percentage (.767).

Eliza Whipple is the most dynamic scoring threat to ever don a Saint Rose uniform. The College’s all-time point producer (112) and goal scorer (46), Whipple was a four-time NE-10 All-Conference pick and a three-time NSCAA All-New England Region selection. She is thus one of only two, four-time All-League honorees in program history who, along with Stone, led the Golden Knights to their first two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2002 and 2003, and a pair of ECAC Tournament bids the two previous years. Whipple furthermore stands sixth all-time in assists (20). She also started all of the Golden Knights’ 80 contests throughout her career.

Beaury, Stone, Tauriello, and Whipple will be the 33rd through 36th inductees into the Saint Rose Athletics Hall of Fame. The 1990 baseball squad will be the second team recognized after the 1988-89 men’s basketball squad was enshrined a year ago. The inaugural induction took place in 1985 and another followed in 1986. The next class was enshrined in 1992 followed by subsequent classes 1994, 2002, and 2003. It was then deemed an annual event in 2007.
