NEW ORLEANS – When the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its NCAA Division II preseason national rankings last week, The College of Saint Rose men’s and women’s cross country teams each found themselves among the top-10 teams in the East Region. Both squads are making their fourth straight appearance in the preseason poll.

Stonehill College, which won its eighth Northeast-10 Conference title in 2009, sits atop the women’s poll. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights, who are one of seven teams representing the N-10 in the East Regional poll, are ranked fifth respectively.

Saint Rose returns 10 letterwinners from last year’s team that posted a fifth place showing at the league meet. The Golden Knights also took seventh among 25 institutions at the East Regional. Sophomore Emma Cohen, who is among the returnees, garnered third-team All-Conference honors after finishing 20th among 158 participants at the league championship meet.

In the men’s poll, defending NCAA East Regional Champion UMass Lowell found itself back on top of the rankings. Saint Rose fell in at #8 and was among eight NE-10 members in the top-10. The Golden Knights were joined by American International, Stonehill, Adelphi, Bentley, Southern Connecticut and New Haven.

Saint Rose has 13 student-athletes set to return to the roster in 2010. The Golden Knights wound up seventh at the conference championships while placing ninth at the East Regional. Junior Macky Lloyd is expected to once again play a major role after recording the second fastest 8k time in school history (25:45.90) at NYIT Running of the Bears last September.
